Rings can be given and worn by both men and woman for many reason and can be of any level of quality.  Rings used for weddings and ceremonial events are usually made of gold, silver or platinum. Rings are also be made of simple materials like glass, metal or even plastic and are given as a sign of commitment or just as a gift.  They can also be set with a stone which is often a precious stone such as a diamond or ruby but it can really be any stone of your choosing.



In western countries an engagement ring is worn which indicates her commitment to her future husband. Although this is not yet marriage it is a sign of his and her commitment to get married.  In tradition the man will select the ring and present it to his partner at the same time he asked to marry him, some countries it is tradition for the man and woman to buy the ring together it really depends on were in the world you are from.
